Here is an interesting comparison I realized a few weeks ago. Maybe it is old news, but it was a discovery to me. These two parallel lines of music are fragments from different compositions. Can anybody read the music and name them? Here are some hints to help:
☛ The top line is very famous internationally, was composed in 1824, and is sung by a chorus.
☛ The second line was premiered in 1875. I think it is a quote from the first piece to subtlety engage the emotion of longing in the listeners. It is very famous in opera circles and is sung by Micaëla.
I'm wondering if anybody else has ever made the comparison.

I thought this was very exciting: fascinating. I don't get out much. Heh! Good luck, musicistas.

(The key signatures should be G (not C ) for context. I forgot to put in the # after the clef.)
