Most people don't like to get behind trucks. During rush hour, when it is awful on the freeways, I always get behind a truck like this when I can. I know they can see much better what lies ahead, and so they modulate their driving so as not to have to shift shift shift break break break - which means I don't have to shift shift shift break break break either. Also, nutcase hotdoggerals are less likely to impulsively zip in front of me for the tiny advantage they are imagining, because they don't want to be behind a slow truck. I can just cruise along in my upper gears @ 35-55mph during rush hour, rarely hitting the brake, and think about dinner (or Starbucks, if it's in the morning) rather than flashing teeth and a finger and shouting at the windshield: some wild berserk-breaking pipsqueak in front of me with a Bush /Chaney bumper sticker. It makes me feel good when trucks want to change lanes into my lane, and I can fall back and flash my lights - let them in. It feels like I'm doing a favor to the team-os I work with.
