I was not able to attend the auction house this last weekend because I was busy at my job, but here are three inexpensive items I might have liked to bid on. I didn't get to see them; these are pictures from the online catalog.

Framed etching. Woman with Arm Raised, signed in pencil "Anne Zucker''. 19th/20th century.
Bidding started @ $25, estimate $50-100. Hammer $30.

Framed␣watercolor, Gloucester Harbor, by Henry Plympton Spaulding. (American, 1868- 1938), signed in pencil, verso, about 10x12".
Bidding started @ $100, estimate $200-400. Hammer $100.

This was a 2-lot. (The other one was an "after" Honore Daumier print.) This one which I like was: Framed pastel on laid paper, Trois Femmes, 1900, in the style of Edouard Vuillard (French, 1868-1940). It doesn't say what size, but probably about 10x12".
Bidding started for the 2-lot @ $100, estimate $200-400. The Hammer Price is not listed, so maybe it did not reach it's reserve... maybe it will be back at next month's auction with a lower start bid.
[Well, I was right. It returned in August (10080396) as a single lot with bidding this time starting @ $50. Estimate: $100-200. And the Hammer Price was $225. We went especially to bid on this and a few others, but this one took off too fast and would have blown out our budget for the three items we were scheming on. Oh well, maybe next time.]
It's fun going to these auctions and looking at all the stuff. Usually out of the hundreds of art works, there are only a handful that I can even bear to look at. (I worry about dulling my senses.) There is certainly a lot of schlock and junque out there, still, most of it seems to find an eager buyer.
