Mutant tumbleweeds are always doing this! Even when I think I'm drawing stuff out of my own head--princesses and dragons and what-not, they appear and swallow up the characters. Very frustrating.

One day I was sending someone a letter and I botched their address, so this envelope turned into scratch paper. Later, I noticed that one of my big fat children's pencils that I draw with had a roughness on the graphite, so I made the black "tumbleweed" trying to round the point again - get rid of the roughness.

Then KDD posted a photo of El Centro AZ for a drawing challenge and noted in the entry about the flock of birds flying. We had just been talking about tumbleweeds (she lives in Tucson AZ) and I know she likes bad horror films, so I decided to draw her photo on the envelope with the attack of the tumbleweed comment. Of course I couldn't resist victimizing crack houses, bars, and white supremacist churches as the target of the foraging tumbleweeds, and you can see the birds escaping in flight. So, I turned my waste paper into a priceless museum piece (someday in my dreams).
