What's going on with the band (and with your truck job)? I used to have an electric guitar. I kind of got uninterested in playing it after college, so it sat around for many years until I gave it to someone when I moved out of SF. I can't even remember who it was. Of course, now I would like to have one again. Tell me about yours. Is it a Stratocaster?
Johnson Gold Top It's basically an inexpensive Les Paul Jr copy. Sounds great with Humbucker style pickups, but the tuners are crap; hard to turn and won't stay in tune.
Ibanez Jet King This plays like butter; sweet action. P-90 style pickups. My main squeeze.
Ibanez Artcore Archtop Sort of a poor-man's Gretch White Falcon copy. Plays great, humbucker pickups, smokin' hot if you want to play it that way. Excellent for jazz and/or rockabilly, but rocks the hell out, too. I've been playing this again for the past week or so. All gits need love.
I also have a Washburn accoustic that I've had since the mid-late 90's. I don't play it that often, but just bought new strings for it, so it will get some action soon.
I've sold 5 or 6 guitars this past year. I hated to part with them but I really had no business buying them in the first place. I get bit with the bug when I see a guitar that I want. Sometimes I can't resist. Got one that's been working on me for almost a month. So far, so good. Have to rectify the job situation and kitty vet stuff first. I have, however, already gotten them to knock $50 off the price. I love unique guitars. What kind was the one you gave away?
And, also...
The band is coming along nicely, if a bit slow progress-wise. But everyone works, so...
We practice twice a week, usually. Thomas (bass player) had to leave town this morning for a possible two-week job in Salt Lake, so looks like we're taking a short break.
I've only been working one or two days a week. I went in last Thursday and had a nice sit-down with the dispatcher. He likes me and my work ethic and whatnot. I filled him in, sort of expanded my work history and abilities from my resume, included stories about stuff that wasn't on there, like operating a Cat 980 front end loader, flying a Cessna, etc. They were not working me for several reasons, one being that I don't have truck & pup experience. I said if you think I can't back up a stupid little pup dump trailer you're underestimating me. So I filled him in. He was going to have a talk with the boss, relate our conversation, see if he could get things rolling for me. I didn't hear back from him until almost ten o'clock last night. He said he felt bad about not getting back to me but he hadn't had a chance for that sit-down with the boss until yesterday afternoon. He said to look forward for some changes to be made at work.
My electric was home made and sort of looked like a solid body les paul custom. It played well. I play trumpet mainly, and like you I have a collection of them and each one has a separate personality and pull something different out of me from each other. I also gave away a classical guitar. And I had two Dreadnaught style acoustics that were made by King (I think was the name). They were excellent guitars with solid rosewood back and sides. Loud, clear and wonderful. One got stolen, the other I sold to someone. My first good one was a Gibson acoustic with a pointed cutaway - a CF-100 that I bought in Chicago. http://home.provide.net/~cfh/cf100.html I wish I still had this one - and my first King which was the better of the two dreadnaughts. I sold the CF-100 to buy a harpsichord kit in about 1968, which started me on a whole different track.
