I was here yesterday.
Jan. 19th, 2012 11:33 amWe had some time to walk around before the movie, so we went around the corner and toured a few, more depressing than usual blocks of Polk St. We were identified by a panhandler as Caucasian Devils: heh, cool. We turned up Jackson and headed back the way we came on Larkin past many homeless people in doorways, wrapped in their mummy bags.
We decided to go up the California St. hill and went inside Grace Cathedral. It was about dusk. The organist was practicing, and it was not church music, but some modern piece that was interesting and discordant, although mostly quiet. Listening to pipe organs in big alive spaces like this is one of my favorite private things to do. A few people were wandering through, and one or two seemed to be there for prayer. I'm in the back pew, and just behind me is one of the mazes, which djaza was exploring. We were there about half an hour. We left and walked down the hill, moved the car from the 2 hour zone to a meter which would go off line in an hour: perfect for us, and went to the Lumiere to see Melancholia again. All in all, an unpredicted and seamless experience.
