These trees are right at the entrance to the Golden Gate Strait, so they get a blasting of the winds all the time. The trees in this photo stand a little apart from the larger grove I posted a day or two ago, and so they are less protected because they're all alone. It looks like this one has been cut down sometime in the past, maybe it was diseased and these smaller ones growing from the original stump maybe are also diseased, but that's just a guess. Up on this exposed point, right on the edge of the cliff, they get quite a beating from the weather constantly blowing in from the Pacific.
Monterey Cypresses always have a sort of minimal look to them with their high canopy and tall spindly trunks. I think they are my favorite kind of trees.
