Did you ever have a bike? I 've had 2 scooters and a Honda mc. I rode for about 15 years, mostly just around SF - for getting around quickly: it's the best. Before that I always rode a 10 speed bike around everywhere. I only had a car in SF the first three years I lived there - what a hassle a care is in SF.
I began to see lots of my friends with motorcycles getting in serious accidents. My girlfriend wouldn't ride on it with me because her brother had wiped out and become paralyzed, before he died from complications. My bike was starting to age and I decided to leave the field while I was still in one piece, so I sold it to one of my union brothers. That was in early May '97. Sometimes I think about getting another one - I'd like to get a small single and just use it here around town.
This guy here must love that bike and maintain it after every ride. It looks newer than new.
I've had a Kawasaki police 1000 that I owned for about a year (can only find the thumbnail on present computer; original image must be pre-iMac...2004 or so)
and a Bajaj Chetak (Indian scooter, 4 stroke) that I owned and rode for seven years, bought in May of '03
I sold the Bajaj a year and a half ago because I was out of work and needed cash and also because I had almost completely stopped riding because I got spooked by bad riding stuff that had been happening around town to people I knew and people I didn't. A person shouldn't be riding if they're spooked. Funny, when I took off all the stickers before selling it (I couldn't get a bite with the stickers on it) I took it for a short ride and it felt very good to ride. But, I'd never gone down, and much younger scooter riders in a club I used to belong to went down and got hurt pretty badly and took them a long time to recover. My bones are much older than theirs and, like you, felt I should get out before I go down. As you know, there are only two kinds of riders; the ones who have gone down and the ones who will eventually go down.
I loved riding, and again like you, feel like maybe getting something in the future. Probably not, though.
