My dad and his brother had one of these that had belonged to their dad I guess. It was in the basement of the house in Indiana, under the stairway. My cousin Johnny and I cranked it up and played the old records one time, maybe other times, I can't remember. I think Peggy was there too. The records were of old popular music. That machine was really old, the brass dull, banged up, not like this one. It had party'd! The records didn't last long, only about three minutes. No one was much interested. "What are you kids doing down there?" The characteristic, distant, scratchy-sounding 78 music, rising from under the stairs into the kitchen the morning after, and then out the spring-slammed screen door into the day.
