today's shopping list.

My fence got knocked down over the weekend by the cops chasing a suspect. They took the suspect away in an amberlamps. I called around to get some free fence estimates, but nobody returned my calls - there are so many people out of work, yet I can't get a fence maker to respond. So, I decided to do it myself. Today I dug the big hole all around the old broken fence post, and used this big pry bar thing I bought that KDD told me about, to break up the concrete around the old footing. It worked slowly, but it did the job: human jack-hammer action. Lots of bug damage underground in the old post stump, no wonder it was such a pushover for the coppers.
Then I measured out the fence post position and poured concrete into the cardboard cylinder, and set the bracket into the wet concrete which will accept the fence post. I decided to do it this way, so next time the cops break the fence chasing suspects through my back yard, all I will have to do is unscrew the broken post from the bracket, and replace with the new (heh heh, cops!) - no digging, chopping hard rocks, swearing in the hot sun.
All the neighbors came over to watch somebody working... quite the little bit of excitement for them. I heard lots of hard luck stories, cost me a little to work in peace if you know what I mean. Anyway, tomorrow I have it all planned out how I will resurrect the fence and scooch it into the new footing. I left a lot of wiggle room. Everything will work out fine.
