Is that a rock that dark wave is breaking over, or is it just the darkness of the water under the surf?

It is the darkness under the surf. I took several pictures trying to capture this split second and this one finally got it. I like the double, wave under the top of the wave too, a phenomenon I don't understand.

Funnily enough, I took photos yesterday of water splashing after a stone had been thrown in. Haven't processed them yet though!!
