These two were from one of the photographs from about a week ago. I think a lot about painting when I take photos - I mean, that is how I think when I look at anything when I am in creative visual mode. I like to suppress detail as I would in painting, and try to make images that seem to confront you as you look. I imagine I am not taking pictures of things, but of visual ideas - well of course, there are things in the pictures, but maybe the 'things' are not what the pictures are about. I like there to be an uncertainty about that.
These two drawings look like etchings I thought. I've been thinking about doing etching again, which I used to do in college; I have an etching press. But now I would like to experiment with thin acrylic/plexiglas printing plates and make drypoints - which are scratching drawings into the plate with a sharp needle tool, then inking and printing the plate which produces images like etchings, and like these two drawings. So, I'm practicing my fine point pen drawing skills and maybe this coming year I will get to try drypoint prints.
