I like this one, but I'm guessing that you're blowing these photos up and cropping bits out. Otherwise the camera's presence would be more obtrusive, whereas it seems to be more of an invisible spectator unnoticed by your subjects!
I crop them because they are pretty large. I use the wide angle setting, so there is a lot of stuff around the edges that is extraneous. I have to use the wide angle because I am usually on the move and any telephoto shot will be blurred. Even so, a lot of my wide angle shots are motion blurred too, but I'm getting better. Also, I like to take pictures in the shade because the sunlight is so harsh and high contrast and so there are exposure/silhouette issues. Shooting in the shade means slower shutter speeds. Burst shooting of 2 or 3 pictures helps too - maybe one will be the right size and not blurred. I'm usually about 6 to 10 feet away. Closer than that and they are always blurred or going out of the frame, farther, they are liable to be over or under exposed, or too small in the frame and have to be blown up to much.
I'd say I pretty much create the pictures I post from the raw material I collect in the field. The crops and other alterations have the ability to change the meaning in certain ways, and maybe make the images more exciting, and encourage more eye movement - which are things I am interested in. I know you are interested in "developing" your pictures too.
Well, sometimes I am farther, but then I might be stationary and can use the zoom, but walking around, 6 to 10 feet is optimal. When both of us are moving towards each other, it might be 10 feet is best, because two movers up close = blur, but this map woman was stationary, so I could get right up close.
I took two on burst, and this was the closer one. She was with a friend to the right that I cropped off so I could have her far to the right and show the reality of where she on the left. This one she was visible down to the waist and there were tall downtown buildings above her. I cropped top, right, and bottom pretty severely. Sometimes I know I will do that, visualizing a wide panorama, but more often I decide once I get home what the picture will be about and try things out.
