No, she was practicing the role of Brunnhilde at full throat while running up and down the hills of North Beach - to gain stamina, and I suppose also to imagine herself flying around Valhalla. The mask softened the volume of her singing quite a bit, but I knew what she was up to immediately and ran after her screaming, "Take me with you to Valhalla!"
We rented a suite on the 20th floor for the night and listened to the whole Ring together on our iPods (with our masks on so we wouldn't make too much racket and wake up the other guests with our singing).
She flew off afterwards, and I hopped a BART train back to work-a-day, wonky, Vallejo. Here we are as Brunnhilde and Wotan; Wotan's Farewell at the end of Die Walkure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tDP-K1dQ-M
Not anymore. Every September, the Opera house simulcasts a live performance of an opera to the Giants ballpark. They filled the place up when they did Aida a few years ago. http://duccio.dreamwidth.org/2010/09/25/ Everybody "got it", so I don't think it would seem totally nuts, or maybe it would, but lots of people would want to listen, then argue among themselves about the quality of our performance and interpretation - ahh, geez. (I'll have to remember to bring a tip jar next time I see Brunhilde out there with her mask on - and get her to stand still instead of running up and down the hills.)
