I bet these places look wonderful inside. All the old wood, and the big spaces and woodwork. I'd like to maybe rent one to use for doing art things, maybe even live in one. A friend of mine lived in a big barn on a winery somewhere near St Helena. The part she lived in was several rooms that were windowed in along the side of the barn. You had to go from place to place, crossing through the large space of the barn. In the winter time only the windowed parts were warm, so going from one section of her place to another meant leaving the warm areas crossing through the cold dark barn, and going to another warm space. It was really great. The barn was clean with a heavy wide planked floor, like a dock, and there was a huge vat in the center - I guess for making wine.
Most of these barns out here look like this. Some have actually callapsed in part. A lot of this land is part of the Sonoma Land Trust and maybe the farmers and ranchers are allowed to remain on the land, until they decide to leave. Then nothing can be done to the buildings because it is partly a "preserve".
