So this is the 3rd Rainbow Warrior? It doesn't look big enough to have a helicopter landing pad. Are you going to tour it? Would you like to sail the ocean on something of that size?
Well, I read that the original rainbow warrior got sunk by the French, and Greenpeace has a rainbow warrior 2 which is a hospital ship. This one replaces the first one and is referred to as the new rainbow warrior, although, it is simply named rainbow warrior.
Apparently it is mostly a sailing ship with a diesel hybrid motor for when it can't sail. When I was a lot younger I would have liked to go on a sailing tour, but I think now I would not want to do it. As far as visiting and touring the ship itself, I have missed this opportunity because the visit dates were only this weekend. It will be leaving SF for San Diego soon.
I spotted it when I went in last week and took this long telephoto shot just before arriving at the Ferry Building. The building behind on the upper right is Alcatraz, It looks so close because of the telephoto, so you can see how far I was away from the rainbow warrior. It's at Pier 15 which is a bit away from where the Ferry Boats come in.
How about you? You want to sail away and tour the world? I'd like to visit places and then stay put there for a few months, get to know the place and some people, but I don't like the actual travel-hassle from place to place.
I always thought it might be kind of fun to have a small sailboat and explore the Sacramento River Delta. There are a maze of channels and many peculiar little towns. The Napa river looks interesting too - lots of odd spots to visit. It would be very quiet which is appealing, and I would draw pictures and take lots of photos.
That's a biggie. You gonna go in on it with me? Between us we probably know enough people for partners that we could afford it. I'll start calling people right away.
