Well, this is one of the reasons I thought it would be kind of interesting to explore the Delta. I've always had the feeling it's kind of a frontier on the edge of civilization and a "dark area" of the unknown. One would have to keep their eyes open, and on a boat, could be a little bit distanced from that.
Two bright things about this whole terrible crime of the deceased houseboaters... Lightning never strikes twice in the same place, and probably the boat is available for next to nothing. The Haunted Houseboat exploring the gritty, Backwater's Edge of Reality. What do you think? All kinds of "heads up", or Ugh?
I don't think I have much choice, since the boat drifted from Sacto County into my county: Solano. I don't have to go look for danger, it's coming here to Vallejo (where all it's friends thrive).
Oh, I see how it is. I'm dreaming of fairy princesses and ethereal ice skating on magical frozen ponds (in close proximity to the river), and you're thinking of Doc Holliday and Little Annie Shinsetsu Oakley! I'm not sure this will work!

Hmm, I looked up the story. I had thought that the two bodies had been shot, and it was drug related maybe, but it sounds like they either overdosed on drugs or got asphyxiated by the meth making chemical process. What a bunch of stupes. Yep, let's pass on these poisoned morons' houseboat.
