I know what you mean. The new one seems too fancy and over designed for it's own good. And then there are all of those stories about phony inspections, wrong size bolts, faulty welds quickly concealed with concrete... but, I guess, what we gots is what we gots.
I was looking at my photo and thinking about how modern and space age the new one looks compared to the old, and I started thinking how someday in a few centuries people will probably look at these bridges and scratch their heads about how dumb we were back now. Of course, they will be transporting from place to place like in star trek.
Then I wondered how many people would get lost transporting if the transporter machines screwed up, how we would get them back, and where they were when "lost". Then I started thinking about the soul. If the lost transported people could be got back, then their soul must exist independent of their bodies. That leads to interesting thoughts. I decided that transporters probably will never happen. If someone ever invites you on a transporter vacation, I'd advise against it. I'll stick with bridges, myself.

It still seems like there is a simplicity about the old bridge that appears safer to me than all that high reaching metal of the new part.
