Making good progress on that project I showed Monday. Tonight I decided to listen to Fidelio while rasping and sanding away; the Christa Ludwig, Jon Vickers, Otto Klemperer recording - 1962. I had a better one I recorded off the radio myself in the late 80's: Live from the Met w/ Hildegard Behrens, very exciting, but I have misplaced it somewhere. (I actually saw Hildegard Behrens perform Fidelio in San Francisco; she was so good.)

I have this huge collection of operas that I recorded myself from records and off the radio. I like to listen to them while I do woodworking. I croak along with them, more or less on pitch (especially the orchestra parts) and the time goes by and I don't get tired or want breaks. I wowed [profile] djaza (on LJ) by showing her I could identify operas from just a few notes sometimes. (I wowed myself too.) I have this really good memory for opera music (but nothing else).
