There's a bar in Vienna just outside Karlskirche made out of shipping containers!

I've seen pictures of containers stacked up in cantilevered, fancy-schmancy fashion, with windows cut in, landscaping, solar, etc., turned into condos. It seems like not a bad idea.

The ones in my picture are probably only about 8' above sea level tho, so they wouldn't make very good affordable housing for the poor, not for long, anyway - except in the minds of the right wing propertied classes, who'd probably fence the development in and construct guard towers around the perimeter. You could be sure of course: life rafts wouldn't be included in the rental agreements.
