I thought of these two drawings a s a diptych. The guy on his phone, and the notes fluttering on the telephone pole that were important to somebody, but as unimportant to the guy, as probably most of the calls he makes and receives - anyway, that's true in my case.
I can't understand how people spend so much time on their phones. I had removed a page from my little sketch book (probably to give somebody my number or something) and did the 2 page drawing with that torn out leaf in the middle to comment on how pointless are most of the incoming messages we get... not all of them, but most.
I have spent lots of time on the phone during periods when I had both excessive mental energy and excessive loneliness. In recent years, most of the people who shared those times with me are no longer in my life. Either they died or fell victim to my dramatic reduction in level of tolerance for annoyance and other unpleasantness.
