I saw this rather boring sculpture at the auction house. It was a head about 3/4 life size. The tool marks were faintly visible and I was able to enhance them. I only took this detail hoping to be able to bring out the sculptors marks, and I think it turned out well. In my woodworking, I mostly am self taught and it was by studying 19th century antiques carefully and looking at the tool marks to see how things were done, and, the acceptable level of craftsmanship in those times. Tool marks consequently still interest me very much.
The auction house is a fun place which I go to every month. I only bid occasionally, but I like to wander around and snap pictures at all the unusual stuff they have that might spark my imagination for a moment. There is so much and of such amazing variety.
