Here is a picture I saw at the auction house some months ago. That is Alcatraz out there in the bay. This has to be from up on Leavenworth Street (or possibly Hyde St.) at about Francisco St. (not far from the SF Art Institute). The buildings look exactly like the ones that are there today, and the cars look recent, so probably this picture is from this decade - it looks new and fresh enough. I suspect the artist worked from photographs, as one wouldn't set up an easel in the street and then expect to finish the painting. That pier out there is Fisherman's Wharf, leading ashore to the tourist area off to the right. The artist has moved Alcatraz over to the right a bit which gives the picture a nice clockwise motion from bottom center, up along the left into depth and out over to the upper right, and then back via the telephone pole. I think it was about 14x20" if I remember correctly, oil on board. Further details about the painting or the auction action... I have none. A colorful, happy, and fun little alla prima painting.
