One year for my birthday, Malida and I went over to the Bakery Cafe on 19th and got some pork buns and took them out here to eat them. Then we drove over to Mt. Tam and Stinson Beach. It was a memorable day.
Diana and I do this almost every year at the Cliff House. I get into SF pretty frequently, but it's always delivering something and being stuck in traffic. Our trip to the Cliff H. with it's walk on the beach, in the GG Park, or Land's End sort of refreshes my love for SF.
This time, we got there about 12:30, and signed in at the Bistro. It was still lunch time, so they told us to come back at 2 when they would start seating from the list. I told her we wanted to sit in a certain location in the back that looks out over the beach and of course, "We have to follow the list..." So we went and walked Land's End. We went back about 2:15 and they gave us this beeper to let us know when our place on the list comes up. I told them again that we would wait longer for the table we wanted.
Then the manager came out and I explained again that we came every year, we knew we had to wait, and we'd wait longer until we could get the area we wanted. She said we might have to wait an hour and a half and I said, "Great!" Diana agreed, and so the manager took away our beeper and said quietly to walk over there and then follow her...
Then she led us to the table we wanted. Sh said, "You are locals, huh? I'm the manager and I can do whatever I want!"
We said we sure were local and we came almost every Thanksgiving and that I'd been coming there for 45 years on my bike, since before the last two remodels. She had been going there all that time too. We were all beaming and laughing.
When the waiter came, he said, "You are the locals, right?" The manager must have told him to take care of us. We found out he had just moved to SF 3 years ago, and come originally from Bakersfield. Now he was at the Cliff House, one of the hearts of the city.
Anyway we had a great time as always. Weather seems to be getting better and better, although this time it was overcast, but not cold. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Take care Mike.
