In this Salzburg production, the two sisters were aware of the joke being played on them.
Ana Maria Martinez is something else. Maybe a new Callas. I'd like to see her live sometime.
Some people hate minimalist staging. They say, "The action takes place nowhere, and in no historic or current time", but I like it very much just for those exact reasons. Too many facts; for me, opera is more like dreaming than a concert or a play.
