I visited a local bakery in a town nearby, Walnut Creek, when doing an errand there. I needed a coffee. I always go there when in that town, which is about 3 times a year. I used to take my mother there sometimes; she lived in walnut Creek. The place has lots of old round oak tables and funky mismatched chairs, and the walls are covered with these old scales, and metal advertising signs, old boxes of products from the early 20th century, and all kinds of interesting stuff. I don't think they have wifi there, and I never see any young people using computers. They are all being seen at starbucks I suppose. I'd like if this bakery had wifi. It would be fun to take pics and immediately post them in my journals. The cool artifacts, the staff which are an interesting mix of people, and all the delicious things in the display counters. Starbucks just cannot compare.
You know, I've never even been in a Starbucks, and we have them here. It actually depresses me that the world is becoming more homogenised. When swine flu broke out, there was a bit of news footage from Mexico, and I couldn't believe the street they showed. It was exactly like one of Glasgow's pedestrianised shopping areas with all the same shops.
Walnut Creek made me think of Little House on the Prairie - but maybe that was Walnut Grove or something. Then again, it could be something totally different and my memory is playing up big time. The cafe you describe sounds lovely. Still, one day wifi will be everywhere!
